Ear pinning, also known as otoplasty, is a cosmetic surgery procedure that is most commonly performed on children and teenagers who have protruding ears, although it can also be performed on adults. Oddly shaped ears can have a detrimental effect on one’s self-esteem and also make all sorts of common tasks difficult, such as wearing headphones or hats. The best candidates for this procedure are individuals who are ages five and older, as the ears are nearly fully developed by this point, and who are in good overall health since otoplasty is performed under anesthesia. Individuals should also have realistic expectations of the results.
Otoplasty at Tampa Surgical Arts
If you are interested in ear pinning for yourself or your child, the team at Tampa Surgical Arts is here to help. The first step is to schedule a consultation with our cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Manik S. Bedi, who will spend ample time talking to you about the procedure and expected results.
During the procedure, Dr. Bedi will make an incision right behind the ear and then trim and reshape the cartilage to achieve the desired shape. Lastly, he will pin back the ear using permanent sutures. It’s not a long or complicated procedure—patients can go home soon after the otoplasty and then spend a week recovering.
If you have questions about otoplasty, contact Tampa Surgical Arts today and we’ll be glad to answer your questions. You can also schedule a consultation to discuss the procedure with Dr. Bedi.
