Take Years off Your Appearance with Laser Skin Resurfacing from Tampa Surgical Arts
The aging process can be unkind to many of us. As collagen production slows down, we can develop wrinkles, lines, dull skin, and more on our face, which can lead us to look older than we are and feeling less confident about our appearance. Thankfully, there’s a solution – and it doesn’t involve going under the knife or receiving dozens of injections. Instead, you can choose laser skin resurfacing, a nonsurgical, non-injectable procedure that can take years off your face in only 30 minutes. This medical spa procedure is one we’re glad to provide at Tampa Surgical Arts in Tampa Bay, Florida, and we’ll be happy to discuss the benefits with you.
What Is Laser Skin Resurfacing?
Laser skin resurfacing works by enhancing your body’s collagen production, which is essential in helping to smooth out fine lines and wrinkles. Collagen is a protein found in the layers of our skin that gives it elasticity and firmness. It’s abundant in children and teenagers, giving them youthful, glowing skin. Collagen production can begin to deplete as soon as your mid-twenties, and both genetics and lifestyle factors play into how fast collagen loss occurs. For example, those who spend more time in the sun will find that the collagen loss happens at a much quicker rate than someone who constantly slathers on sunscreen every time they go outside.
Laser skin resurfacing delivers heat from the top layer of the skin all the way to the bottom layer to stimulate collagen production and take years off your appearance. It’s one of the most natural and minimally invasive ways to refresh your skin and make you look younger.
How Is Laser Rejuvenation Performed?
There are a number of laser rejuvenation procedures but the one most popular at Tampa Surgical Arts is CO2 laser resurfacing, also called fractionated CO2. This procedure uses continuous light beams to deliver heat in a scanning pattern to destroy thin layers of skin cells while leaving the surrounding tissue intact and unharmed. This type of laser rejuvenation is best for the following types of skin issues:
- Acne scars
- Sun spots
- Moderate lines and wrinkles
- Uneven skin color
- Benign pigmented lesions
- Enlarged oil glands on the nose
- Poor skin texture
- And more
What Are the Benefits of Laser Skin Resurfacing?
Laser skin resurfacing restores your skin’s appearance, making it brighter, smoother, and more even. It is a natural way to encourage collagen production, which will help to keep fine lines and wrinkles at bay.
Plus, since it’s an entirely nonsurgical procedure that takes less than an hour to complete, you won’t need to rearrange your entire schedule to get it done. You’ll be able to get back to your normal activities quickly.
What Is the Treatment Protocol for Laser Rejuvenation at Tampa Surgical Arts?
During your appointment at Tampa Surgical Arts, we will assess your skin and find out more about the issues you’ve been experiencing and the type of results you’re looking for. In many cases, simple CO2 laser resurfacing is the treatment protocol we’ll recommend, especially if you’re looking to get rid of acne scars, fine lines, wrinkles, brown spots, and other surface-level issues. In other cases, full laser therapy is necessary, a procedure we can talk to you further about if needed.
We can schedule your laser rejuvenation during this initial consult. If opting for CO2 laser resurfacing, the appointment will take 30 minutes or less. You’ll be seen by our cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Manik S. Bedi, or a physician assistant who will numb the treatment area using a local anesthetic before beginning the laser therapy. In certain cases the procedure will be done under general anesthesia, depending on the depth of the laser resurfacing. When the laser skin resurfacing is complete, a surgical dressing will be applied to your face to protect the treated area.
What Should I Expect After Laser Rejuvenation?
The healing process after laser rejuvenation is similar to what you might expect from a facial. The surgical dressing must remain in place for 24 hours, and then you can begin to use topical treatments on the area. Your skin may feel tender and it may look like you have a sunburn for the first few days after the procedure. Within five days, you should feel fully recovered and enjoy the noticeable results with the fractional laser. If you received a full laser rejuvenation, the recovery period takes 12 to 14 days.
As long as you take care of your skin and limit your time in the sun, you can expect your skin to continue to improve for up to six months after the procedure.
